Dominique is a Philisophist and Honorary Professor at the University of Lausanne where he taught environmental sciences. His research interests focus on different aspects of sustainability.
After a doctorate from the University of Strasbourg (1981) and another from the EHESS (1995), he obtained a university habilitation in philosophy at the University of Lyon (1998). Dominique has been a professor at the University of Troyes and at the IEP in Paris. From 2006 to 2009, he directed the Institute of Territorial Policies and Human Environment at the University of Lausanne before working until 2019 at the Institute of Geography and Sustainability (IGD), Faculty of Geosciences and Environment, University of Lausanne.
At the same time, Dominique Bourg has also become known for his ecological commitments. Until December 2018, he chaired the scientific council of the Nicolas-Hulot Foundation for Nature and Mankind. He was a member of the Coppens Commission which prepared the constitutional charter for the environment. He co-directs, with Sophie Swaton, two collections at the Puf, and also, the magazine La Pensée écologique (Ecological Thought). He chairs the Scientific Council of the Zoein Foundation and is also Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Humid Heat Study Project for UNESCO.
